HEALTHY FLATBREAD RECIPE

There is nothing as enticing and intoxicating as the scent of fresh baked bread. Every time I smell fresh bread, I am transported back to Paris, waiting to bite into a fresh warm baguette. My wife loves to bake, but I have never tried my hand at making bread before today. I have had a craving for flatbread and especially flatbread pizza for several days. Usually I buy pizza dough or flatbread from the grocery store and make a pizza, but this time, I decided to do everything from scratch. It was truly worth the effort. Try this easy and healthy flatbread recipe and you will never want to buy it from a store ever again. The following recipe makes 2 medium flatbreads.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup whole wheat flour
  • cup all purpose flour
  • ¾ tsp kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp baking powder
  • ½ cup whole milk yogurt not Greek-style
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Herbs of your choice Rosemary would go well

Instructions

  1. Mix all the above ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Knead with your hands for 2-3 minutes till smooth.
  3. Divide into 2 pieces, cover with plastic wrap and let rest for 15-30 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle some all purpose flour on a flat surface (I used our wooden cutting board) and flatten the mix.
  5. Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough into the shape of your choice (I opted for an oval, as it was easier).
  6. The dough should be quite thin and even so that it will cook quickly and evenly.
  7. Make a few indentations with a knife.
  8. You can cook the flatbread on a heavy bottom skillet over medium high heat for 2-3 minutes per side, till lightly browned.
  9. I opted to bake it in the oven at 350*F for 3-4 minutes per side.
  10. Add toppings of your choice and bake for 2-3 minutes more till heated through.
