About

My Story

Why another food blog?

I am not a trained chef but a busy professional and I learned to cook out of necessity and because of my love of food. Because of my background, I think that I can provide a unique perspective on recipes and cooking for the novice as well as for those who want to cook a wider variety of foods. I specialize in simple, approachable recipes that anyone can recreate in their own kitchen.

I grew up eating wonderful Indian food cooked by my mother who was an exceptional cook, but never gave away  any of her recipes. She never used a cookbook or jotted down notes, and was very possessive of her recipes, which are now lost forever.

Over time, my tastes have evolved as I tasted different cuisines. L.A. where I live, is truly one of the world’s great food cities and the variety of cuisines available is mind boggling. I have also had the privilege of traveling extensively throughout the world (to over 50 countries and counting) and have had the opportunity to eat all kinds of foods, from Michelin starred restaurants to street foods. The more I  traveled, the more my tastes have changed and so has my cooking.

I plan to cook the foods that I love. I scour magazines, cookbooks, television shows and websites to find recipes. I have developed several of my own recipes over the years. While I enjoy bold, spicy flavors, I also recognize that everyone has their own preferences. Feel free to adjust the spice level to suit your own taste.

I am lucky to live in an area (L.A.) where we can cook outdoors most of the year and I grill a lot year-round, and so there will be a lot of grilling recipes. I also love the slow cooker and now the Instant Pot, so expect quite a few slow cooker/IP recipes. I plan to post a new recipe every week. I will also post travel essays and restaurant reviews/recommendations.

Join me as I post recipes that I love and have cooked and let us explore the foods of the world together.
